SWINGING AT CAP

In Cap d'Agde itself there are six swinger clubs: Le Glamour (sometimes called Villa Romaine after the adjacent restaurant and café) in Heliopolis; Le Juls (formerly Cleopatra's ) and Le Tantra (formerly Le Loft and before that L'Absolu) in Port Nature; Le Pharon, Nat Hammam and 2et2 in Port Ambonne.

There is one club in Agde, Les Quai des Anges and one in the countryside nearby - the fabulous L'Extasia.

The clubs work hard promoting themselves by distributing leaflets such as the ones you see on this page and by advertising in the resort's promotional magazines.

Most of the clubs are couples only. Nat Hammam and Les Quai des Anges are 'mixed' i.e. allow in single men. Some such as L'Extasia and Le Glamour also have controlled access to their playrooms, so that you can only enter and leave them as couples (Le Glamour has two sets of playrooms, one that allows single guys and one that is couples only). Nat Hammam and 2et2, being a sauna clubs, do not have dancefloors or cages.

All the clubs provide free condoms and free cloakrooms and there are tissues to hand in all the playrooms. Playrooms tend to contain a corridor which winds itself between rooms and cubicles of various sizes that contain black leather beds. Sometimes the wooden partitions have peepholes and other holes lower down! Some of the clubs' playrooms are shockingly big. Le Glamour's is a catacomb with many twists and turns while L'Extasia's is the size of a school hall.

Going to clubs isn't the only way of finding fun at Cap however. You can meet people on the beach, by the pools and in bars - the communal unisex shower rooms in the campsite are renowned for brief encounters. In fact, despite the clubs heaving every night of the week during the swinging season, only a tiny proportion of the people at Cap are in them on any particular night.

The swimming pools are popular. €10 euro rents you a sunbed for the day and waiters bring you drinks. However, the same people tend go each day to the same place so if you didn't meet anybody interesting the first day you are not likely to the next day either.

COST

Clubs usually charge a certain amount per couple that brings with it a certain number of free drink tokens. Once you have used these up, drinks are expensive. Beers are cheaper at around £6 (and it's not a pint) but other drinks cost around £8 whether it's a coke or a vodka & coke. Before the euro you could buy bottles of cheap spirits for 1000 francs and international brands for 1200 (we don't know what the new prices are). With a bottle of spirits you get free mixers until it's empty. If you don't finish it they will put your name on the bottle and keep it behind the bar for your next visit.

These prices are more than most people want to pay for 8-10 nights of their fortnight's holiday. It helps to account for why many couples find their action elsewhere at Cap. But there is a way around it. If you go in a group, 12 tokens clubbed together (i.e. six couples) buys a cheap bottle and 14 buy a good bottle - say Smirnoff or Gordon's or Jack Daniels. You then get free mixers served in pitchers all night for all of you and it hasn't cost you an extra penny. That stops you dehydrating. If your female partner takes her alcohol from this bottle and your male partner limits himself to a couple of beers, you can get away for less than £35 an evening.
